Ministry Leader: Dan Reynolds
God
expects us to utilize every resource that He has provided for us. Today,
we have technology that was not available just a few years ago. He has
allowed us to discover new things; however, His expectations are that we will
utilize those new discoveries for His glory. Many of our grandparents
didn't have the airplane or even the car; today, those are essential in our
worldwide ministry. Many of our parents did not have the internet; today,
we accept that technology as standard. We are blessed at Summit with
persons who have a good background in technology and who are willing to "show
us" how to use those resources to teach the Word of God in a more effective way.
The
elders at Summit developed a new Technology Ministry in 2004. The
development of a web site for the Summit Church of Christ was the primary
written goal for calendar year 2004. Following a detailed Web Page Project
Plan approved by the elders in October, 2003, the web site was launched on
January 1, 2004. The functions outlined in that plan have been
accomplished and additional features have been added. In addition, the
site has been upgraded on numerous occasions during the year to provide not only
more functionality but a more appealing page as well.
The web site is the
primary responsibility of the Technology Ministry, but there are other
responsibilities as well. These include maintenance of the congregational
database application which contains information for the church directory, tracks
those tasks/worship assignments that individuals volunteer to perform, and
provides numerous reports with this data. Maintenance of computer hardware
and the internal network for the congregation is another responsibility, as well
as being the primary contact for the ISP and other technology vendors.
New goals:
1. Continue making improvements/modifications to the web site as needed
and as suggestions are received from the elders/deacons/ministry
leaders/teachers and members.
2. Continue encouraging teachers and ministry leaders to utilize the web
site in their work.
3. Continue to support the existing database application and possibly find
better ways to integrate the contents of that database with the web site.
4. Make contact with 6 people through the web site for the evangelism
ministry to teach and convert.
Long-Range goals:
1. Equip the auditorium with high quality projection equipment
installation for use in classes, singing, and sermons.
2. Equip classrooms with hardware and software needed to teach the
curriculum.
3. Develop a plan to establish "smart" classrooms for our present building
as well as a future classroom building.
4. Employ a sound engineer to design a sound system for the auditorium and
foyer and purchase and install the equipment. |
