Glorifying God

Introduction

A. Text – Rom.11:33-36

B. O the depths of the riches of God

            1. Paul is awed by what he knows of God

                        a. Ps.139 - David – knowledge of God too lofty, too wonderful

                                                            God’s thoughts are precious – vast

                        b. Eccles.3 – Solomon – man unable to fathom all God has done

            2. He is far above man – nothing we can do for Him

                        a. Needs nothing from us

                        b. We owe everything to Him – crested & sustains

                        c. Fact that we even exist is by His will & graceH

C. Discuss bringing glory to God

D. Pray

 

I. Our God Is A Glorious God

            A. Glory is the essence of His nature

                        1. Intrinsically glorious – what He is by His very nature

                                    a. Isa.6:1 – high & exalted; train of robe filled temple

b. Rev.4:2 – appearance like Jasper & carnelian

            1) Sparkling & flashing light as gems sparkle

            2) Clear brilliant colors

                        2. Effect of His presence on man

                                    a. Moses face radiated because he was in His presence

                                    b. Isaiah fell upon his face crying out in fear “woe unto me”

                                    c. Mt.17 – apostles terrified in His presence

                        3. Look at His creation

                                    a. Universe displays His glory

                                                1) Beauty & grandeur of it – immense

                                                2) Orderliness & organization

b. Our world

                                                1) Orderliness of the seasons – each beautiful & consistent

                                                2) Grandeur of the seas & landscapes – skies

                                                3) Even seen from space – awesome & beautiful

                                    c. Human body

                                                1) Fearfully & wonderfully made

                                                2) Each part functioning together - harmony

            B. He is glorious because of His holiness - perfection

                        1. Absolutely no imperfections

                                    a. In His character & being

                                                1) Sinless; no sin can even be in His presence

                                                2) Spiritual realm recognizes this Continually crying “Holy

                                    b. Make no mistakes – flawless in His judgments

                                                1) Everything laid bare in His presence

                                                2) Nothing hidden from Him

                        2. All He does is righteous – good

                                    a. James 1:16,17 – every gift is good & perfect

                                    b. Never involved in unrighteousness & deception

 

II. How Should We React – Bring Him The Glory He Deserves

            A.  Truly worship Him with all our being

                        1. Rom.12:1 – our supreme calling - worship God with all our being

                                    a. Wholly & continually offering ourselves

                                    b. Holding nothing back – all heart, soul, mind & strength

                        2. Delighted to be in His presence (privilege)

                                    a. Hearts filled with devotion & respect

                                    b. Thrilled with the privilege to glorify & worship Him

                                    c. Standing in awe!

                        3. Do we sense awesome privilege given us?

                                    a. To come into His presence – get an audience with Him

                                    b. As sinful as we are – ushered into His presence – wants us

            B Allow His love to flow through us to others

                        1. Rom.5:5 – God poured out His love into our hearts

                                    a. Poured out to the point of overflowing

                                    b. Allowing us to experience His love fully – manifest it

                        2. 1 Jn.4:7-14 – loving others demonstrates we have Him – in Him

                                    a. Sent Jesus to save us – undeserving as we are

                                    b. His love removes all fear – freely express love

                        3. Jn.13:34,35 – demonstrates we are disciples

                                    a. Rom.15:7 – accept others as Jesus does

                                    b. Willingly & freely forgiving although imperfect

                                    c. Seeking to understand & patiently accept (want get along)

            C. Continually seek the character of Jesus

                        1. God’s goal – Rom.8:28,29

                        2. His character

Not seek to be contentious – Mt.12:20 (bruised reed)

Continuously sought to please God

Willingly emptied Himself for our benefit - servant

Obedient to God regardless the cost

            D. Look for ways to share our faith with others

                        1. 1 Tim.2:4 – God’s will all be saved

                        2. Rom.10:14-17 – unable cry out to Him unless hear gospel

                        3. 2 Cor.9:10-14 – even their giving resulted in God being glorified

                        4. Each has a responsibility – find ways – 2 Cor.4:13-15

 

Conclusion

A. Our God is awesome – glorious

B. Focus your life on glorifying Him

            Worship with all hearty; Love others; Become like Jesus; Share your faith
