Introduction

Our theme this year is “The Victorious Church”.

1 Corinthians 15:57 - “But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

We believe that if we seek this quality in the Lord’s body at Summit through faithful prayer and obedience to God’s word, then we can truly reach out to seek and save the lost. The emphasis of our sermons and activities this year will carry forth this desire to a victorious church here at Summit.

As elders, we believe that it is important to plan ahead, because planning helps force us into taking action, especially when we have a target date in mind. It is too easy for people to procrastinate in our world today, and the elders here at Summit feel that procrastination is not the will of the Lord for His Church. However, as we make plans, we should also not feel despondent because some of our plans were not completed in the time span that was planned. God's schedule may be different, and our primary desire is to conform to His will. With that in mind, sometime this year we desire to hold a long-range planning meeting seeking input from every member of Summit.

We are extremely grateful for the many servants of God at Summit that step up to serve when the need arises. Large or small efforts, seen and unseen service, God reaps the honor and glory when His servants work in His vineyard. We encourage all the members of the Summit congregation to become actively involved in a ministry this year. Many within our membership are involved in various and we are very appreciative of the willingness and effort of all these ministry leaders and workers as they continue to utilize their talents for the Lord. Our desire as elders is the spiritual development of all the membership of this congregation through a better understanding of God and His word.

We look forward to the rest of 2008 with great anticipation as we visualize the congregation reaching out more and more into the community and sharing the love of Jesus with as many as possible.

Long-Term Works

Most of these objectives have been in place for many years. These are not listed in any order.

1. Increase the attendance to approximately 300 people with appropriate spiritual growth for each individual. At that time, support the work of a local mission by establishing a congregation in Northern Kentucky with sufficient members at Summit moving to that congregation to provide a strong nucleus.

2. Increase the staffing (paid or volunteer) and delegate more authority with the desire in mind of releasing the elders to be totally dedicated to the spiritual growth of the congregation.

3. Increase the emphasis of the congregation upon missions and the spreading of the Gospel both locally and around the world by supporting a full-time missionary.

4. Develop a plan for educating our children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord through the starting of a Christian School. A foundation was set up in 2005 to begin the initial stages of a Christian school being started in the future.

5. Develop programs to encourage the involvement of all members in the Lord's work here at Summit which could include group activities, senior activities, family activities, young married activities, singles activities, youth activities etc.

We may be asking you to consider helping a particular area of service as we seek to get more of you involved. Be praying that God’s will be done in your life and in the family here at Summit as we seek to reach out and serve others this year. The body of Christ cannot truly live and function unless all of the parts of the body are working together to serve our heavenly Father. Being involved is the best way to become and feel like a part of the body of Christ here at Summit. Let’s all get involved in something to build up the kingdom of our Lord!

Romans 12:3-83For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you. 4Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, 5so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. 6We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man's gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith. 7If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach; 8if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully.”
