Psalms 8:1 “O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens.” (NIV)
Psalms 8 is often referred to as the “nature” psalm because it honors God for his creation and describes the importance of mankind to him properly related in his creation. As you begin reading Psalms 8, I am transmitted to the cathedral of the night skies and stand amazed at God’s unquantifiable love for us. Many years ago I lived in Yuma, Arizona in the great Sonoran Desert of the United States. I would go into the desert and look up at the night skies and see with crystal clear purity what the Psalmist meant when he said that God had set his glory above the heavens. When you stare at the night sky and see countless stars, planets, moons, and star systems such as the milky way knowing that Jesus Christ the living word brought this into being, your eyes mist up at the great power and love of God for mankind. God loved man so much that he established his plan for the salvation of the nations in a manner, time, and place that cost him Jesus Christ and him crucified on a Roman cross in great agony and torment because he loved us so. This planet is a wondrous place even with mankind abusing our sacred stewardship of care for it, but what is critical for us to see and understand is the connection between the awesome creation about us that we can see and the awesome love God has for all of us that all too often we don’t see. The Psalmist asks the question in Psalms 8:4: “what is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him?” The answer is found with a resounding exclamation mark in John 3:16: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” The next time we look into the night sky or see the beauty of the mountains or the awesome ocean waves pounding a beach; take a moment in silent meditation and then lift up your voice of praise by speaking “O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth.” TODAY FATHER I VOW WHEN I LOOK AT THE BEAUTY, PEACE, AND AWESOME INSPIRATION OF NATURE TO PRAISE YOUR HIGH AND HOLY NAME AND REMEMBER THE GREAT LOVE YOU SHOWED FOR ME AT THE CRUEL CROSS OF CALVARY WHERE MY LORD AND SAVIOR DIED FOR MY HORRIFIC SINS. THANK YOU LORD JESUS CHRIST AND AMEN! By: Mike White
