Joshua Chapters 1, 2, 3, and 4

Overview of Chapters 1, 2, 3, and 4:   After Moses died, Joshua, who had previously acted as Moses’ assistant,  is instructed by God to take the leadership of His people. One of the instructions given Joshua by God was to take God’s people across the Jordan.  However, before carrying out these instructions Joshua sent two men ahead to “view the land.”  They stayed at the home of Rahab who hid them from the king of Jericho. She then sent them to the mountains to stay three days, after which they would be safe. The two men then returned to Joshua and made their report to him. Joshua and all the children of Israel went to the banks of Jordan and waited three days before crossing. They were told that as soon as the feet of those who bore the ark reached the water, the water would part.   Twelve men were selected to take stones from the river and build a monument depicting their crossing of the river. The priests then came out of the river and immediately the waters returned to normal.   (Overview for this reading compliments of Gene Harlow)
