Overview of Chapters 14, 15, 16, and 17: Moses reviews some of the laws that were given in Leviticus Chapter 11 regarding clean and unclean food and the offering of tithes. He then deals with the cancellation of debts on the seventh year, including freeing servants, how to deal with the poor. Three annual feasts, the Feat of the Passover, the Feast of Weeks, and the Feast of Tabernacles, are to be celebrated by the Israelites. Moses also commands that judges are to be appointed for each tribe in each town. Special warnings are provided the judges to be fair in their decisions. Finally, in our reading today, Moses provides instructions in dealing with idolaters, setting up courts, and regulations regarding the appointment of a king.
